Blitzing untaxed vehicles

The partnership of Hastings Borough Council and Hastings Police have declared the first month of seizing uninsured in addition to untaxed vehicles a resounding success.

During May the team seized 14 vehicles for having no insurance, 42 vehicles for having no road tax. 8 vehicles were removed for obstructing the highway, 8 abandoned vehicles were removed and 3 persons were arrested for driving whilst disqualified.

In total 108 offences were dealt with. A fantastic achievement by the two person multi agency team.

Hastings Neighbourhood Specialist Team Inspector Mark Callaghan said.

' These results are fantastic news for the law abiding Hastings community, removing these vehicles from our streets makes the town safer for its residents and disrupts active criminals.

We will build on this success by equipping the team with an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system and a speed management capability to deter all aspects of anti-social driving.'
