Body found near Littlehampton's Oyster Pond

A MAN'S BODY was found near Littlehampton's Oyster Pond yesterday (Tuesday, January 12) evening.

Police are still trying to trace his family, after being called to the boating lake, in Windmill Road, just before 9pm by a passer by.

A Sussex police spokesman said: "The man was lying on the footpath and was confirmed dead at the scene.

"A greyhound dog was found nearby and is believed to have belonged to the dead man, thought to be local, and in his 30s or 40s."

He added that there were no apparent external injuries, that the cause of death was not yet known, and that there was no indication, at this stage, that it was weather related.

"We are not treating the death as suspicious pending a post-mortem examination, which has yet to be arranged," he added,
