Bognor bands being invited to strike up at Olympic event

Musicians and singers are being sought to make Bognor Regis part of an Olympic celebration in sound.

They have the chance of adding to the town’s prestige of being on the Olympic torch route by taking part in the biggest closing event the games have known. They have been invited to participate in the bandstand marathon on September 9, 2012.

Eric Pickles, the secretary of state for communities and local government, said: “The bandstand marathon is a great opportunity to come together with a real sense of community to celebrate the best of your local area.”

National not-for-profit arts organisation Superact is aiming for 500 locations across UK hosting simultaneous performances as part of the Cultural Olympiad.

Superact associate director Katharine Lane said: “This really is a unique opportunity for musicians in Bognor to be part of a major national music event and create a musical legacy post London 2012.

“Superact can offer bands a fee to take part plus loads of support with planning and publicity – all of which is invaluable for them in the future”.
