Bognor murder trial - Just seven days before, wife had told police of her fears

Cassandra Hasanovic had told police she feared for her safety just hours before she died.

Mrs Hasanovic made three statements to police about her estranged husband Hajrudin Hasanovic, who had been harassing her over the phone and in the street in the months before her death.

On July 22 she gave a stark warning to police in a statement which read: "He scares me. In the past he has threatened to kill me.

"I do not know if he will carry out these threats. I live in fear."

A week later on the morning of her death on July 29 she contacted police to make another statement.

She told how Hajrudin Hasanovic had been calling her mother's home in Nyewood Lane where she was staying and leaving messages on the answerphone.

Mrs Hasanovic's mother Sharon De Souza told Lewes Crown Court: "We got back from her solicitor's telephone conference and pretty much as soon as we got in the phone was ringing.

"That really alarmed Cassie. She was unnerved by it."

Hasanovic called her again at 10.10am on the day of her death. She didn't answer the phone and told police in a statement: "I live in fear for the safety of me and my children."
