Bognor Regis Observer moves back home

A NEW era for the Bognor Regis Observer will begin on Monday (October 3) when it opens the doors of its new home to the public.

Having been in Station Road since 1950, the weekly newspaper’s office will relocate to the Visitor Information Centre on the Place St Maur.

Observer editor-in-chief Colin Channon said: “The relocation of the newspaper office will be a new and exciting beginning for the Observer in Bognor Regis town centre.

“We will continue to provide our readers with the coverage of the local area they rely on us for.

“All the services you have come to expect from the newspaper will be available at the new premises.

“We are all looking forward to working in our new home in the heart of the town.”

But Mr Channon stressed the editorial independence of the newspaper was unaffected by the move.

The unique agreement between the Observer and Arun District Council will see a new VIC Lite where tourism details will be available through computers and a range of brochures and leaflets.

The self-serve VIC Lite will open later this month.

Norman Dingemans, Arun District Council’s cabinet member for economic and cultural development with responsibility for tourism, said: “We look forward to the start of this new partnership and wish the Bognor Regis Observer many happy years serving the community from this new base at Place St Maur.

Work is under way establishing the new VIC Lite service, which will be in the same building for residents and visitors to the town, which we look forward to unveiling over the coming weeks.

“The new VIC Lite service will offer a walk-in, self-serve facility where visitors will have access to a host of local tourism information, accommodation directories and high-speed internet points.

“In the meantime, there is a wealth of information available on our official tourism website www.sussexbythesea.com”

The Bognor Regis Observer’s telephone numbers are 01243 828777/833104 for editorial and 01243 827111 for advertising, but in the interim you can phone 07739 593790 for all editorial enquires and 01243 539389 for advertising.

Email addressees are also unaltered.

But the need to move equipment from the Bognor Regis Observer’s long-standing offices at 14 Station Road means there will be no editorial or front-counter services today.
