Bognor Scoutreturns from world jamboree

A Felpham Scout has returned from an adventure of a lifetime.

Matt Stroud represented the Bognor Regis district at the World Scout Jamboree in Essex.

The gathering of more than 40,000 Scouts from around the world takes place every four years. But this occasion was more special than most because it celebrated a centenary of Scouting.

Matt (14), of 1st Felpham Sea Scouts, was among a contingent of 36 Scouts and Explorers from around West Sussex.

He was chosen to represent the Bognor district from a shortlist of five hopefuls after an interview and a session of teamwork challenges.

Those preparations, as well as the months of fundraising, came to fruition after Matt arrived at the jamboree at Hylands Park in Chelmsford.

Ahead was ten days of excitement and expectations after the jamboree's opening on Saturday.

A World Scout Jamboree brings together more than 200 nationalities under canvas to live out all the adventure, fun and challenge which the global organisation offers.

This provided plenty of chances for Bishop Luffa CoE School pupil Matt to enjoy the experience of meeting new friends from around the world. More nations were represented at the jamboree than next year's Olympics.

The jamboree gave him the chance to try new sports and challenges, get involved in projects to make a difference to local communities and share in life-changing experiences with a wide range of peers.
