Wendy Morris, group Scout leader, said: “We have been supporting Bookbridge for five years and many of the young people and leaders proudly wear a badge on their uniform to show that they are Bookbridge champions.

“This honour is earned by collecting books and attending the sorting event, at which, last summer more than 30,000 donated books were sort into categories, counted and packed to be sent to the learning centres.

“It is incredibly humbling to know that books that we would otherwise discard will be received with such appreciation by children in Sri Lanka, Mongolia and Cambodia. We often take so much for granted in our country and it is important to be reminded of the value of our education and access to being able to learn.

“It is also an invaluable lesson that by doing something to help someone else, we can each make a difference.
