Bognor seafront homes proposal is welcomed

More flats along Bognor Regis seafront have been welcomed by the company running the town's entertainment facility.

Openwide International is certain to be selected by Arun District Council on July 9 to begin six months of talks with its chosen developer about proposals for live and film entertainment.

A key element for St Modwen and Arun of the new venue will be the 168 flats above the entertainment provision, which is also likely to include bars and restaurants.

The idea of additional flats in a development which could reach as high as eight storeys has always been controversial.

But Rory Holburn, the commercial and operations director of Openwide International, said the residential element was vital to Bognor's regeneration.

"We believe in the regeneration of all the UK's seaside resorts," he said. "The internet is bringing about a big change.

"People no longer have to go into the office every day. They can stay at home for several days a week and travel in for a day or two.

"This totally changes where they need to live. They can choose to live in pleasant places like Bognor rather than in the major cities. New flats will provide those homes."
