Bognor show gives pride of place to home-grown veg

Home-grown vegetables will have pride of place at a revived Bognor Regis town show later this month.

The free community event is being staged outdoors on August 22 for the first time in two years.

A smaller occasion on 2008 took place indoors because of poor weather.

But organisers hope their luck will hold this year to enable Bognor's residents to enjoy a host of attractions in a traditional show setting.

The show will feature competitions for home-grown produce and flowers from adults and children '“ with prizes for the winners of each category '“ as well as arts and crafts workshops.

Quad bikes and an inflatable football stadium will also provide plenty of fun. A car boot sale will add to the interest.

The action will take place between 11am-5pm on the Hampshire Avenue recreation ground.

Carole Fullick, of the Bognor Community Action Network, said the show also had an educational role.

"It's to bring the community together to find out information about community safety, improving health and the environment.

"That could include growing vegetables in their gardens or learning how to make something.

"The event will have something for all the family and everything is free."

The show has been organised by Bognor CAN, Bognor Regis Town Council and Bognor Regis Horticultural Society with support from Arun District Council.
