Bognor to honour armed forces

Honours will be presented at this year's armed forces day in Bognor Regis.

The June 27 event will feature a presentation of Veteran's Day badges and medals. The organisers of the ceremony would like to feature as many individuals as possible.

Those who will be honoured are veterans who are receiving their badges for the first time or those who received a badge in the post and would like to have it formally presented.

Relatives whose father or grandfather was a Home Guard member for more than three years in the second world war are also entitled to receive a Defence Medal. It is still possible to apply for a medal which can be awarded posthumously.

Anyone who would like to find out more about applying for a Veteran's Badge or other medal to which they believe they are entitled should contact Frank Hull at the RAFA Club on Waterloo Square.

Those who wish to take part in the presentation ceremony should contact Mr Hull as soon as possible on [email protected] or call him on 07973 175118.

The presentation of the medals will take place after a drumhead service at 10am in Waterloo Square signals the start of this year's armed forces day in Bognor.

Bognor Regis Town Council, the Royal Air Forces Association and the Royal British Legion are jointly arranging the celebration of the country's servicemen and women.

Sue Holmes, the council's events officer, said: "The day will involve a number of ex-service associations and cadet groups and also current members of the armed forces."

Full details of the planned activities around Waterloo Square will be released shortly.
