Bolt down those garden ornaments!

POT-hunting criminals are making life difficult for garden lovers.

Police are concerned about a spate of thefts of expensive garden ornaments.

Sergeant Trish Reeve-Fowkes said on Tuesday: "Since January 5 this year police have received over 15 complaints of theft of garden ornaments in the town.

"These include chimney pots, concrete planters and bird baths. Some of these items are expensive. I understand antique chimney pots can fetch 100 or more.

"These items are being stolen at any time of the day - daylight hours included.

"The most recent being yesterday in daytime in the St George's Road area where a red Fiesta-type car was seen with two rather heavy males in it.

"They were seen to climb into a garden and take two chimney pots."

Anyone with information about this or other similar incidents is asked to contact Sergeant Reeve-Fowkes at Bexhill police station on 0845 6070999.

The sergeant added in a warning to the public: "Please be aware that this is going on.

"It is not confined to one area. It is all over Bexhill.

"My suggestion would be somehow to secure the items or even go to the extreme of mov
