Bongor Regis ditch clearance plea to owners

A PLEA to landowners around the Bognor Regis area to keep ditches clear has been repeated.

Members of Arun District Council’s safer Arun and environment working group urged residents to clean out their watercourses which may have become blocked by debris, vegetation and silt.

Council engineering services manager Brian Holland updated councillors at last week’s meeting on the responsibilities for watercourse management and highlight recent flooding.

He told them the legal duty for ensuring ditches were kept clear rested with the owners of the land through which the watercourses passed.

The council looks into reports of flooding fears to help reduce the risk of future emergencies.
