There has, of course, been food-and-wine pairing going on for years. But this is a first: book and cheese pairing.

It could only happen in Brighton, surely?

Two best-selling authors - Jonathan Kemp (Ghosting) and Emily Bullock (The Longest Fight) - will be in conversation with Laura Lockington, Brighton and Hove Independent's own Book Doctor at Cave à Fromage in Western Road.

Laura Lockington, host of the Bookish Supper Society, said: 'I've teamed up with innovative Brighton publishers, Myriad Editions, and local food hotspot, Cave à Fromage, to bring a very special Bookish event to Brighton Fringe this year.

"These are two very literary books, from amazing authors, in a much-loved and valued setting. Books and cheese. What's not to love?

"I had the delight of tasting the cheese that manager David Deaves has specially selected for us, and I was blown away. Truly special and a cheese lovers delight.'

Mr Deaves said: 'We are thrilled to be hosting a Bookish event in Brighton Fringe. I've selected some wonderful cheeses, all English and all local.

"There is a specially-chosen one called The Boxer, which is a beer-washed cheese with wonderful malty notes that seems particularly apt to go with The Longest Fight.

'As well as Golden Cross, from Lewes, which is a citrusy, nutty goats cheese, Waterloo, made from cow's milk from the Duke of Wellington's estate, which we serve with truffle honey, Lord of the Hundred, Lancashire Bomb, and supreme world cheese champion, Bath Blue. It's going to be a great night for all book- and cheese-lovers.'

Tickets for Wednesday, May 20, at 7pm, are available from: www.Tabl.com. Tickets cost £27.50, including supper and a glass of wine.
