Boxing night proves another knockout success for Rotarians

Almost 300 diners raised some £6,000 at a charity night of boxing in Bognor Regis.

Celebrity TV chef Brian Turner helped boost the profile of the annual occasion at Butlin’s by presenting prizes to the boxers in the bout which the company sponsored.

The event featured 12 bouts of competitive and highly-entertaining boxing presented by Bognor Amateur Boxing Club with the Rotary Club of Bognor Regis.

It was attended by 280 boxing fans.

Rotarian David Wheeler said: “This event has now been held on 28 occasions over the past 32 years.

“The most recent ten have involved the Rotary club. During this time, well over £60,000 has been raised shared equally between the boxing club and Rotary.

“It is hoped that this year the figure will again be in the region of £6,000.”

Brian Stemp, of the Rotary club, has organised the bout on its behalf since 2002.
