Brave teen recognised for effort to save a life

Jason Brown, 14, a pupil at Slindon College, in Top Road, Slindon, attempted CPR on a man who had been hit by a lorry in January of this year.

Jason was being driven to school by his mum when the incident happened. They were travelling east on the A27 from Emsworth to Chichester when they stopped to try and resuscitate the man.

Jason attempted CPR on the man until paramedics arrived but sadly was unable to save him. The man was later pronounced dead at the scene.

An inquest returned a verdict of suicide.

Jason was presented with a certificate of merit signed by Sussex Police Chief Constable Martin Richards, and West Sussex coroner Elisabeth Bussey-Jones at a presentation ceremony at his school on Tuesday.

His actions will also be rewarded with a helicopter flight courtesy of Advance Helicopters of Shoreham.

PC Glen McArthur said: “Jason’s actions went above and beyond what many people would have done, let alone someone as young as him. It is important that we recognise such a selfless act and I am delighted that his bravery is being recognised in such a way”.
