The Environment Agency has issued the warning for residents in Rope Walk, Littlehampton, and those in Climping.

The organisation is advising homeowners to brace for possible flooding as storm-force winds and high tides combine, later this evening.

A spokesman for the Environment Agency said: “Due to stormy conditions forecast for tonight there is an associated storm surge that will push astronomical tides high and with strong winds generating large waves along the Sussex coastline, beach conditions will deteriorate and flooding to some property, low-lying communities and some infrastructure is possible.”

He added: “Environment Agency teams are working around the clock to maintain defences where safe to do so and our staff are monitoring throughout the day and night.”
