The wall which protects homes in River Road from the River Arun collapsed earlier today, Friday, January 8, and with a high tide due after midnight tonight, there are real fears homes will be badly affected.
The pictures show the collapsed wall just in front of one property, which seems to have its foundations now exposed, and an already high tide in the river.
Experts from the Environment Agency and the fire service are on the scene after of a high tide at 12.33am.
The Observer and Gazette is awaiting a comment from the Environment Agency.
The area is prone to flooding and the town suffered bad floods in the early part of 2014.
