BREAKING NEWS: Four bailed over New Year’s Day hit and run.

Three men and a teenage boy have been bailed in connection with the hit and run death of a young cyclist in St Leonards on New Year’s Day.

Named through social media as Jamie Murray, the 23-year-old died when he was in collision with a Ford Focus car on the A259 at Grand Parade at the junction with Warrior Square around 4am.

Mr Murray died at the scene.

After colliding with the cycle the car continued for a short distance before stopping on the A259.

A number of young men were seen to get out of the car and run away.

The three men and a boy were arrested later during the same day on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

A 33-year-old from Bexhill has been released on police bail until March 4 and a 24-year-old from Hastings has been released until March 1.

A 24-year-old from Bexhill and a 17-year-old from Bexhill have both been released on police bail until March 3.

The 33-year-old from Bexhill and the 24-year old from Hastings had also been arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs.

The 24-year-old from Bexhill was also arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking.

The 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Sergeant Bryan McCartney of the Surrey and Sussex Road Policing Unit said; “Any witnesses to the collision or to the Focus stopping afterwards are asked to contact us.

“We would also particularly like to hear from anyone who saw the car being driven in the Hastings, St Leonards and Bexhill areas at any time in the early hours of the morning leading up to the collision.
