BREAKING NEWS: Man charged with raping 12-year-old girl in Worthing remanded in custody

A MAN has been remanded in custody by magistrates after he was charged with the rape of a 12-year-old girl.

Daniel Roberts, 29, of no fixed address, appeared at Worthing Magistrates' Court today (Friday, June 6).

He spoke only to confirm his name and did not enter a plea to the charge against him.

Roberts, who has been living in hostels around the town for the past year, was arrested on Wednesday (June 4).

It is alleged he raped the 12-year-old girl on an East Worthing beach on Monday, June 2.

Yesterday (Thursday, June 5), police investigating the case sealed off an area of beach near the Half Brick public house in Brighton Road, Worthing, to conduct a search.

Roberts has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance, at Chichester Crown Court on September 25.
