BREAKING NEWS: Tilling Green plans withdrawn

Amicushorizon planned to create ‘an attractive cul-de-sac style development’ featuring 32 homes for rent and shared ownership, as well as a

state-of-the-art community centre.

But this week, it withdrew the plans which had been submitted to Rother District Council.

There had been a lot of local concern about the risk of flooding.

AmicusHorizon said it worked closely with the Environment Agency so it could produce a strategy to design out and mitigate the risk of flooding.

However, in order to mitigate the flood risk after new guidance from the Environment Agency, the housing provider was forced to raise the floors of the proposed units adding substantial extra cost to the development.

Amicushorizon says this means the scheme is ‘no longer financially viable’.

However the association says it is still keen to deliver a scheme to the site which will bring affordable housing to the area.

Amicushorizon is continuing to work with the landowner, East Sussex County Council, and other partners on options for the site.

Neill Tickle, development director (counties) at AmicusHorizon, said: “We’re disappointed to withdraw the current planning application, but it was simply no longer financially viable.

“We’ll work hard to balance the costs, local housing needs and design to create a high quality scheme that’s affordable and fits well into the existing environment.

“We’ve always said the local community is key to the success of our plans for the development and we’ll continue to work closely with them in the future.”
