Head teacher Luisa Gould made the announcement, claiming the move was an ‘exciting step’ for the primary, based in Whitelea Road, Wick.

The news follows in the wake of a report released by education watchdogs Ofsted, on Friday (March 21), which hailed the school as Good – the second time White Meadows has achieved the rating since opening, in September 2011.

Mrs Gould said: “This is a very exciting time for us at the moment.

“I’m incredibly proud of our Good Ofsted report and I am really looking forward to our transition into an academy school.”

White Meadows will officially convert to the White Meadows Academy School on Tuesday (April 1).

It means the school will no longer be under the control of West Sussex County Council.

Instead, it will be supported by REAch2 Academy Trust, the largest primary-only academy trust in the UK.

Other schools in the area which are also academies include the River Beach Primary School and The Littlehampton Academy, both in Littlehampton, and the Rustington Community Primary School, in North Lane, Rustington.
