Recently Departed: I heard after I sent in last weeks column that the funeral of Godfrey Coleman was taking place. He lived in Fieldway, Broad Oak and his neighbours tell me that he was a lovely man, very quiet and pleasant and that he would be missed by them all.

Easter Lilies: there is still time to place your request so please contact Sue Sturmey 01424 882544 as soon as possible to inform her of your loved ones that you would like remembered. The cost of the white lilies for Easter will be £2.50 per stem. if you wish other blooms to be used this can be arranged.

Lent Lunch: at the Vicarage in Brede, last Friday made £50 and Martin and Vicky thank all those who made this possible. The Red Lion provided delicious bread once again and a very popular carrot and apple spicy soup.

Rainbow Trout News: Rob Thorpe is the new manager at The Rainbow Trout. First and foremost they re-opened under new management with a new swing on traditional British pub food, with fresh ingredients all sourced locally where possible, prepared fresh to order and supplied at a reasonable price. Their main Speciality is their pies with a constantly growing variety of fillings, completely home made by Rob and their Chef Shane. They are individual portion pies not a slice from a bigger pie and they are proper pies not just a stew with a lid on it.

The events they will be hosting are a Quiz Night the Last Wednesday of every month starting with the 30th March, entry is £1.50 per person and hot food is available for an extra £5 per person which will be determined the Monday before the quiz. They would strongly advise booking your table and require numbers for food at least 24 hours in advance so they can ensure sufficient supplies to feed everyone.

They will also have live music on the last Saturday of every month, the next few gigs are Total Mayhem on the 26th march at 9pm, local favourite Sam Calver on 8th April at 8.30pm and on 7th May Atlantic play from 8.30pm.

They are both Children and Dog friendly and weather permitting will be holding an Easter Egg adventure for the Children in the afternoon at 3pm on Easter Sunday. They offer Roast dinners every Sunday and various meal offers Throughout the rest of the week. You can contact them on 01424 882031

Friday 18 March: Yoga with Susan at 9.30am and WEA is at 11.30am both are in Udimore Community Hall.

Brede Farmers Market: is from 10am – 12 noon in Brede Village Hall, I did not make it last week as I had another commitment, but I will be popping in this week as I need to replenish items that can only be found there. If you have never been before do go and see the stalls and what they have to offer for yourself and maybe stay for a coffee, the money from this goes to charities and last week at the Brede Friendly Circle Charity Evening for the Chestnut Tree Children’s Hospice Liz gave them a cheque for £200 which they were grateful to receive as like St Michaels Hospice it takes a fortune to keep it running.

At 7.30pm this evening the Short Mat Bowls Players will be in the Brede Village Hall.

Saturday 19 March: St George’s Church needs a spring clean, so if you are available to do inside the Church or tidy the cemetery, your help will be gratefully accepted.

Fire Fighters Car Wash. The Broad Oak Firefighters will be ready to wash your cars from 9am – 1pm today.

Sunday 20 March: Palm Sunday Church Services are as follows: Father Anthony White conducts the Mass service at 9.00 am in St Theresa’s Catholic Church on the old Northiam Road, if you need to contact the Father his number is 01424 773125

There is no morning service at the Methodist Church in Broad Oak but there will be a service at 4.30pm for Rye and District Churches Together led by their Minister Rev Peggy Heim and their Superintendent Rev Ian Pruden. Monday 21 March: Yoga in Udimore community Hall at 10am.

Age Uk East Sussex Brede Community Club will meet in Brede Village Hall at 10 .30am to begin their day with coffee, news and card games followed by exercises with Zena. After lunch they will be doing an Easter Activity. The day can be split into two now, so if you only wish to go for the afternoon you may do so, also they have a mini bus now so transport is not a problem; for more information please contact Mrs Maureen Distin on 07850 987130.

Whist players will be in Brede Village Hall at 7.30pm

The Guiding section meet in the small hall of Brede Village Hall; the Rainbows meet from 4.15- 5.15pm, they welcome girls aged between 5-7 years, Julie Piper can be contacted on 01424 883464 or mobile 07863599537. The Brede Luncheon Club will be sitting down to another delicious lunch at 12 noon in Brede Village Hall.

The 1st Brede Scouts are in the Scout Hut from 7pm – 9pm. and any young person 10½ or over is welcome. The contact is Andy Bishop 07811339626 Please contact me, 01424 882037 to book the Scout Hut, the cost for the Hall which includes Kitchen, and Main Hall is £6.00 per hour and overnight camping for groups is £3.00 per person per night. The Group has a large field at the back suitable for camping and the large Hall has a leaders room at the side for indoor camping. Use of the gas barbecue is £10 (gas included)

Thursday 24 March: – Maundy Thursday Pilates with Laura at 9.30am with another session at 7.30pm both in Udimore Community Hall. Stretch and Tone with Sally in Brede Village Hall at 9.30am. Craft Group in Udimore Community Hall at 2pm.

At St George’s Brede at 7pm there will be and evening Eucharist of the Lord’s Supper including the reception of the Holy Oils and the Washing of Feet. Followed by the watch at the altar of repose until midnight.

Good Friday 25 March: The watch continues from 9am at10am stations of the Cross.

Continuing at St George’s Church there will be a celebration of the Lords Passion, Veneration of the Cross and Holy Communion at 2pm.

Holy Saturday 26 March: At St George’s Brede at 8pm There will be a Service of Light, Renewal of Baptismal Promises and sung Eucharist.

In the Rainbow Trout Total Mayhem will be entertaining at 9pm,

Saturday 16 April: there will be a concert by the Regency Singers at 2.30 pm. at the Methodist Church in Broad Oak. No admission charge but donations welcome for church and refurbishment funds.

Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebrations, begin with the lighting of the Beacon on Thursday 21 April in the evening, there will be food and drinks available in or outside the Parish room from Gary from the Red Lion. The next events which begin around the Queen’s official Birthday are already being put in place, for the weeks of June 6th - 14th it is exciting, that we should have all age groups catered for in the events planned so far.

Talent Evening: A new date has been arranged for this event – Friday May 20 in the Sedlescombe village hall, at 7pm . We expect to see singers , dancers, jugglers , musicians , in fact all types of entertainment are welcome to join in from the local and surrounding area. Places will be limited to allow for a fair opportunity for all taking part. There is no fee to enter and there will be a £100 awarded to the winner and runner up prizes too.
