Funeral Date: The Funeral of Tony White will take place at St Peter & St Paul’s Church Peasmarsh at 1pm on Thursday 2 July, I am sure that there are many in the community who will want to attend the service.

Friday 26 June: Yoga is at 9.30am in Udimore Community Hall. Brede Farmers Market is open for business from 10am – 12 noon in Brede Village Hall. Locally made or grown items for sale, some not available anywhere else. Brede’s Short at Bowlers set up at 7.30pm in Brede Village Hall.

Saturday 27 June: today you could join Sussex Wildlife Trust and Sussex Ornithological Socety for a walk to Castle water to hunt for water-beetles, backswimmers and leeches in the ditches. Then look for terns, gulls ducks and waders from the birdwatching hide. Pond dipping nets abd binoculars proveded. Meet at Brede Lock at 2.30pm it will finish about 4.40pm no booking is necessary but donations would be appreciated their web sit is www.sussexwildlifetrust.org.uk/whatson I have to say we have some of the little creatures in our pond and last year we even had ducks visit us, and currently we have a variety of gulls swooping around the house and one family sits on a neighbours garage roof. Sadly last week mum gull was killed. There had been an unholy row from the gulls outside and somehow it resulted in the mum gull being run over, we think. It was not clear what had happened. The father gull trapped himself under our solar panels and no amount of persuasion would move him. Eventually Chris Sands turned up to clean our windows and he suggested we phone for the fire service. It felt bad phoning them for a trapped bird, but out came the Brede Fire Engine with four of the Fire Fighters, Chris suggested Pete went up the long ladder as he was the tallest. It did take a bit of untangling the wing from under the panel and Pete had his fingers pecked with a very hard beak on a number of occasions luckily he had thick gloves protecting his hands. Eventually he came down with the unfortunate gull and my neighbour produced a cage to safely put it in, she then took it to Mallydams to check it’s wing had not been broken. Thankfully it wasn’t and they also told us that they were ringed by them. Their not so young baby gull looked a bit dejected but the following day Mallydams released the father gull and it returned to the garage roof and it’s young off spring. Our grateful thanks to our local Lads, we were told that it is too dangerous for a member of the public to climb ladders and effect a rescue for birds as big as a Gull, as it is dangerous for those not used to climbing long ladders and the general public would not have thick enough gloves to protect themselves from the hard beaks. Be warned!

Our Cricketers are in action at home today in the Recreation ground and they are playing against Northiam at 2pm. As ever good luck lads!

Monday 29 June: Age Uk East Sussex – Brede Community Club begins at 10.30am – 3.30pm. After coffee they have Ryan’s Musical Entertainment an Activity of their choice and a Raffle ( Please take one along if you are able - thanks). Uniformed groups - The Guiding section meet in the small hall of Brede Village Hall; the Rainbows meet from 4.15- 5.15pm, they welcome girls aged between 5-7 years, the Brownies meet from 5pm – 6.30pm for girls 7-11 years old. Tuesday 30 June: Pilates are in Udimore Community Hall at 9.15 and 10.25am Brede Luncheon Club meet at 12.30pm in Brede Village Hall . Flamenco dancing is in Udimore Community Hall at 11.30am.

The 1066 Choir and Organ are giving an Organ recital in St George’s Church Brede at 7.30pm, there will be a retiring collection.

Wednesday 1 July: Brede Mother’s Union are holding a Strawberry Tea to which you are welcomed in the Parish Room in Waterworks Lane Brede from 3pm – 4.30pm.

Thursday 2 June Sally is in Brede Village Hall at 9.30am with Stretch and Tone. The Doctors surgery is in the Small Hall of Brede Village Hall at 12 noon.

Saturday 4 July: The Brede Giants at Brede Waterworks will be open today from 10am to 4pm- a good place to take the whole family and it is free. In Brede Village Hall tonight the Village Dance takes place at 7.30pm, it’s time again to get out the sparkly shoes and dance sequence, ballroom or Latin, and have a really good time.

Sunday 5 July: Rainbow Trout’s Family Fun Day is taking shape and they have lots planned. Bouncy Castle, Music from the 1066 Rockitmen in the garden from 2pm, Name the Teddy Stall, Win a football, Minion Tombola with Big Minions to win as well as the new purple ones!! Raffles, BBQ, The Boules Team are challenging anyone to play them and Beat them! Let them know if you want to have a game, they are happy to teach you and its really good fun. Soft Play Equipment and hopefully Face painting (still trying to track one down!!) Fingers crossed for the weather!! Saturday 11 July: The Rye Singers will present A Summer Concert ‘On Wings of Song’ in St George’s Brede at 7.30pm Tickets £ 8.50 to include refreshments and they are available from Bobbie Boud 01424 882549 or Mike Iliffe 01424 882991 Rye Singers have kindly offered to do this concert entirely for Church funds. Please Support this event.

The Rye Partnership: are holding courses at Tilling Green Community Centre in Mason Road Rye they are all free as long as the you have not taken part in one of their 10 hour courses.

Wednesday 15 July BEGINNERS I.T. – Are computers a mystery to you? Do you need to know how to get started and search the internet, send emails, etc. Then this course could be for you. 10 hour taster course starting noon to 2.30pm

LINE DANCING – Line Dancing. Great Fun!!! Dates and times to be confirmed yet but please contact me now to get your name on the list. Course dependant on enough enrolments.

Help Needed for the set up of Brede Flower Festival:

Thursday 27: August 5pm help put up the tents and marquees in Brede Church grounds.

Friday 28 August: at 1pm Grannies Attic ladies need help to carry boxes to their tent and possibly help unwrap the items going to be sold. There will also be other people needing help putting things in their tents ie books, jam, plants.

Over the weekend there will be 2.5 hour slots where you could offer your help . The catering team need more help in the kitchen and serving please contact Vicki 01424 883408 so she can add your name to the rota. For the car parking rota please contact David 01424 882037 and if you have any spare plants please take them to the plant stall. There will be a cake stall on every day. If you can bake a cake it will be appreciated. The Flower Festival is Brede Church’s biggest fundraiser, the daily cost of running such an ancient building and the ministry in the Parish is enormous and they just about keep their heads above water. Everyone expects the Church to be available for Christenings, Weddings and Funerals so please go and support it if you can as you may needs it services one day. I am giving you good notice so that you can contact the above and put this marvellous event in your diaries to visit or help during 29th. 30th 31st August and of course offer help on the 27th, 28th of August. Lastly have a good week whatever you are doing.
