Brede players: The Brede Players excelled themselves this year and entertained a nearly full house Friday and two full houses Saturday. The children(adults too) were laughing so much throughout. The two fairy’s had a hard task on their hands and one was only just out of finishing school for fairies. The antics of Silly Billy, who asked the audience to be his friend, fell asleep every time someone said ‘work’; much to his mum’s discuss she ate an cooked a lot of cabbage and at the station every time someone said ‘Tooting’ she made parping noises, she looked so uncomfortable and the children were rolling off their seats with laughter; a child near me had tears rolling down their face they thought it so funny . Scratch and Itch the King Rat’s hench rats tried their best to bring down the fall of London but they did not know of the determination of Dick Whittington and his Cat who saved the day. Dick married the Alderman’s daughter and became Mayor of London. Marvellous scenery, make up costumes, lighting, music, acting and tea making. Oh and raffle ticket selling. I hope I haven’t left anyone out as it was a wonderful team effort to pull off such a good show for the village.

Je suis Charlie: Last Sunday Justin Welby the Archbishop of Canterbury quoted ‘Je suis Charlie’ then continued. ’True freedom is found in the love of God and neighbour, in loving your enemy, in an end to war and hatred. Yes you should be free to offend and be offended, but how much better to love and be loved.’ I will leave you to ponder on this.

Friday 16 January: Brede Farmers Market is from 10am – 12 noon in Brede Village Hall. I was aware of new stalls last week or stalls that had slightly changed. There is a selection of fresh fish and also of meat cuts. Local diary products and a bakery stall, apple juice and apples and I believe I saw pears too from Peter’s orchard. The hand made cards are beautiful and there are two fruit and veg stalls as well as a furniture stand. Have I whetted your appetite to go and have a browse if you have not done so before. Then you can treat yourself to a lovely cup of coffee when you have finished shopping. In Brede Village Hall this evening the bowlers are back in action at 7.30pm

Sunday 18 January: the Church Services are as follows: Father Anthony White conducts the Mass service at 9.00 am in St Theresa’s Catholic Church on the old Northiam Road, if you need to contact the Father his number is 01424 773125 St George’s Church Family Eucharist starts at 9.30am and Father Martin can be reached on 01424 883408. The Methodist Church service in Broad oak is at 10.30am and the service will be led by Reverend Richard Dengate. St Mary’s Church Udimore will have Holy Communion at 9.30am. Evening Prayer at St Georges Church is at 4.30pm. From 11am – 4pm there is a household items sale which includes furniture, china, ceramics, glass ,furnishings, old records cd’s and books at 16 Pond Close Broad Oak Brede TN31 6DR

Monday 19 January: Age Uk East Sussex – Brede Community Club begins at 10.30am – 3.30pm. After Coffee they will have board games to play and newspapers to read then discuss the news items. They then have the opportunity to play treasured memories, of coarse they natter to each other in between the activities and they have a lovely lunch. Uniformed groups - Please contact the respective leaders if you wish your child to join this term. The Guiding section meet in the small hall of Brede Village Hall the Rainbows meet from 4.15- 5.15pm, they welcome girls aged between 5-7 years, the Brownies meet from 5pm – 6.30pm for girls 7-11 years old. Tuesday 20 January: Pilates are in Udimore Community Hall at 9am Painting for Pleasure is at 9.30am in Brede Village Hall. Rainbow Trout has Bingo this evening so it is eyes down at 8.30pm

Wednesday 21 January: Crafters at 2.30pm Yoga Udimore Community Hall at 7pm

Thursday 22 January: Sally is back at 9.30am with Stretch and Tone for those who feel they need some exercise (me included) The Brede & Udimore Overseas Group have their Winter Lunch in Udimore Community Hall at 12.45pm. Tickets are £8.50 for a two course hot lunch Contact Liz 01424 882657 or Judy 01424 882222 The Charities that the group are supporting the Charities of Papua New Guinea Church Partnership Sightsavers, Deaf, Tanzaneer and the Amani Orphanage in Kenya. Antiques Valuation Roadshow at the Rainbow Trout From 1pm – 4pm by Clive Attrell from ITV and BBC TV who will give a free Valuation with no obligation to sell. So dig out your family heirlooms and see what their worth..

Saturday 24 January: Quiz Night The Friends of St George’s Church have only a few tables left for their quiz in Brede Village Hall this evening 7pm for 7.30pm start. Teams are up to eight. Tickets are £10 per person and are available from Marion Firman 01424 751165 and include a fish & chip etc supper. Do not forget to take your glasses, both sorts for eyes and liquid refreshment, the latter you will also need to bring and nibbles. Knife and Fork and maybe a pen and some paper to scribble your notes on. It should be a good fun filled evening for everyone to enjoy
