Buses: Fantastic News for us the Save our bus campaign was worth the fight although pressure still needs to be applied to ESCC. Our 340 Hastings to Tenterden route will be hourly most of Monday – Saturday however there is no guarantee that Stage Coach will run the 341 or 342 or Dial a Ride which is scandalous as many non car drivers and mostly elderly folk use the service. I think I am right in saying it also has a drop down bit at the rear for wheelchair users. The people in Udimore will be truly stranded if the Rye to Hastings via Broad Oak is not reinstated. As will the rest of us who wish to shop or visit GP’s, Dentist or Optician in Rye from Brede and Broad Oak. You can still contact Sarah Owen or Amber Rudd with your concerns.

Bonfire: Many thanks to Northiam Bonfire Society and the other Bonfire Societies who turned out to join them for the procession along the road for a wonderful family event, The bonfire was huge so one little boy was heard to say and the gasps of delight from the massive crowd came as the fire works lit the sky. Thankfully a clear night after the rain in the day.

The Parish Churches Magazine is out for October 30p and has the month’s goings on. It is available in the shops in the village and the Churches of St George Brede and St Mary Udimore. I would be lost without my copy.

Church talk: On Wednesday 1 October the Friends of St George’s Church Brede: Presented Dr John Crook FSA who gave a brilliant illustrated talk about ‘The Tomb of Christ:’ The event was well supported and there was lively chatter after the talk as people mingled with their glass in their hand and a plate of cheese and biscuits, thank you John and FOSGC for such a pleasant way to spend a Wednesday evening. I give my apologies for the glitch relating to the above in last Friday’s edition.

Vaccine: Flu Vaccination Sessions are available with Dr R. Albardiaz at the Broad Oak Surgery on 15 October. There are other sessions in Northiam on 4, 11, 13 November with the final session 21 November.

Friday 10 October: Pilates is in Udimore Community Hall at 9am. Brede Farmers Market is from 10am – 12 noon in Brede Village Hall there is a lovely smell as you go through the doors of spices coming from the hot food stall selling curries and other dishes. The Market is usually busy if you have not been you will be surprised at the variety of goods on offer. The Wea Practical Gardening: is in Udimore Community Hall, 11.15am – 1.15pm. Brede’s Short Mat Bowlers set up at 7.30pm in Brede Village Hall. Games evening at the Rainbow Trout. They are attempting a go at playing Bulls eye, teams of 2 are needed to compete in the game, the form is in the bar. A chance to win Bully’s special prize. The Autumn Migration Watch is at 9am – 12 noon and interested people are asked to join the Warden at Brede Lock north of Rye Harbour Road, Rye TN31 7TD for this 3 mile walk to look out for warblers waders and wagtails. There is also a reunion for Old Scholars In the Rye Academy for those who left Thomas Peacock in the 60’s and 70’s this needed to be booked with Richard Moore

Sunday 12 October: Church Services: Father Anthony White conducts the Mass service at 9.00 am in St Theresa’s Catholic Church on the old Northiam Road, if you need to contact the Father his number is 01424 773125 St George’s Church begin their Family service is at 9.30am and Father Martin can be reached on 01424 883408. Mrs Gillian Lambourne will take this mornings service at the Broad oak Methodist Church which begins at 10.30am. St Mary’s Church Udimore hold their mornings worship at different times so please look at their Church notice board or in the Parish Magazine.

Monday 13 October: Age Uk East Sussex – Brede Community Club: begins at 10.30am – 3.30pm. Today, as usual there is a mixture of things for the clients to do. Rainbows meet in the small hall of Brede Village Hall, this afternoon from 4.15- 5.15pm, they welcome girls aged between 5-7 years, Brownies meet from 5pm – 6.30pm for girls 7-11 years old. Tuesday 14 October: Pilates are in Udimore Community Hall today at 9am. In Brede Village Hall the Painting for Pleasure group meet at 9.30am. The Mobile Library, Oakhill Drive 3pm Reedswood Road 3.50pm. In the Rainbow Trout the Villagers Evening at the pub begins at 8.30pm with Roll over Bingo and a chance of winning the big cash prize.

Thursday 16 October: Sally starts her Stretch and Tone: class at 9.30am. The Mobile Library is in Brede Village Hall car Park at 1.25pm in Brede Village Hall at 2.00pm the Nation Trust Rye & District Association are presenting Ian Porter giving a talk on Women and the Home Front in World War 1.

Saturday 18 October: young persons flower arranging morning 10.30am – 12 noon. The class is for school-aged children who would like to have a go at arranging flowers, it will be held in the Parish Centre near St Georges’s Church, the cost is £3.00 and this will include a container, oasis, tape, foliage and flowers and refreshments. You will need to bring is a pair of strong scissors or secatuers and your friends for this fun session. Thursday 20 November: The VI O’Clock Club presents The Cameo Opera an indoor Glynbourne at Brede Village Hall 7 for 7.30pm start tickets are £12 each. Saturday 25 October: The Friends of St Mary’s Udimore have an evening of Spooky Tales. Geoff Hutchinson will give the history of Halloween in words and music at 6pm in Udimore Community Hall.
