Friday 18 October In Brede Village Hall the Brede Farmers Market takes place from 10am – 12pm. There is so much there for you to browse around, much of it a freshly product made locally. Saturday 19 October Today the Giant Jumble Sale takes place from 10am – 12 pm at St Mary’s Hall (Udimore village hall) entry £1.00 to include coffee.

Vicki and Father Martin welcome everyone to the New Rectory this morning or this afternoon for tea/coffee/glass of wine. They would be especially pleased to see you for the house blessing at 1.30pm

Hastings Welsh Society are holding a Hastings week Coffee morning at 22 Hollington park Road St Leonards on Sea form 10.30am – 12pm entry £1 includes refreshments. Anyone who has Welsh connections in any way will be most welcome to join them. Tonight Hastings will be heaving with revellers expecting an exciting evening as the Bonfire boys and girls parade with their faggots burning along the sea front to be followed by a huge bonfire and firework display. It will be the first of the many bonfire and firework events in the County and summons nearly the end of Hastings week.

The WI Quiz Evening last Saturday was successful and they thank all who came and made it so much fun. They raised over £300. The performance by the Treorchy Male Choir delighted the senses as their voices soared to make the most wonderful sound. The renowned solo singer Ros Evans was greatly appreciated by the audience with her mezzo soprano voice and choice of music. Sunday evening Sammi Lou sang at the Rainbow Trout. I thought more people would be there to hear her sing, as she was fantastic as I predicted in previous columns.

Sunday 20 October at St Georges Brede there will be a sung Eucharist at 9.30am followed by coffee. At the Trinity Methodist Church Mrs Dawn Novis will be taking the service. From 3pm – 5pm Brede and Udimore Overseas group are holding a fun filled afternoon in Udimore Hall You can test your wits with their crossword and quiz and enjoy good company over a proper afternoon tea and cakes whilst escaping the autumn chill sounds wonderful so do pop along and support their fundraiser which helps raise money for those not so well off overseas. You could then go straight to the Rainbow Trout to hear the Folk singer Eamon who will be entertaining between 5pm and 7pm. It could be a busy day.

Monday 21 October Age Uk Day Centre welcomes people to join their Community Club for half a day (lunch, afternoon activities) if this is more suitable and affordable. Contact Maureen for more info 01424 883282 today the clients arriving at 10.30am will be discussing the current news, doing jigsaws, playing scrabble and floor basket ball, After lunch the talented “Dave the music man” will be entertaining. The Whist Players will settle down for a game in the main Hall at 7.30pm. In the small Hall the Rainbows start at 4.00pm with Brownies following at 5.30pm.

Beavers are in the Scout Hut at 5.30pm - 6.30pm, Cubs meet from 6.30pm – 8.00pm. Guides meet at Udimore Hall at 7.15pm

Tuesday 22 October In Brede Village Hall the Brede Luncheon Club meet for the monthly lunch 12 for 12.30pm. New members and visitors are welcome but you need to book so call Anne Owen 01424 882025

Thursday 24 October at 9.30am Stretch and Tone with Sally is in the Village Hall. In the afternoon at 1.30pm The National Trust will be having another one of their talks.

Friday 25 October The Brede Farmers Market open from 10am – 12pm. Short Mat Bowlers will hope to be on form for this evenings game at 7.30pm. Also at 7.30pm find your best witches and wizards clothes for the Halloween Fancy Dress Party at the Rainbow Trout with live music from the Dead Rabbits.

Joan Hester has contacted me; She held a Macmillan Coffee morning and says the Friends of the Orchard would like to thank those who attended an enjoyable and happy occasion. They were delighted to be able to send a cheque for £300, which included some generous donations. She has also asked me to remind you about the Battle Community Bus shopping trip to Sainsbury’s. If you need help or require more information please phone Joan 01424 882550. The collection points are; the bus stop on the Northiam Road at 9.30am then the Village Hall at 9.32am and the Red Lion at 9.33am they intend to arrive at Sainsbury’s at 9.50am. The bus begins its return journey at 11.30am arriving back in the village about midday.

Sunday 3 November 4.30pm The Red Lion Chutney Challenge. Enter your homemade chutney in their house competition. Only one category Chutney; made by you. There will be a Trophy for the overall winner. Register your entries no later than Saturday 2 November. Also today from 5.30pm The Rainbow Trout have are holding a bonfire party. Entry £2 per Person

There will be a Professional Firework Display by Icon Pyrotechnics. a bonfire, hot food and drinks. Bring along your Guy – one will be chosen to go on the bonfire with a prize for the winner. Thursday 7 November the VI O’clock Club present the Cameo Opera at Brede Village Hall 7pm for 7.30pm. Tickets are £12 per person available from Penny Dawson 01424 882263. Round up your friends and to make a table of 6 or 8 then think what you are going to create for your 4 – 5 course dinner. It is also a Black tie event and great fun.
