Friday 14 June I quote Father Martin ‘That was incredible,’ he was of course referring to the magnificent performance of ‘Jesus Christ Superstar.’ the Church was a wonderful backdrop for this moving performance, and it was full of people anticipating a good evening. The young people performing put every ounce of their feelings, energy and good voices into the fast moving show. They made good use of the Church moving up and down aisles as well as predominately using the Chancel. The costumes were interesting, the crowd dressed in black, hoods down at the start but when they were an angry mob hoods were up. The Rabbi’s were clothed in long purple cassocks; Herrods clothing drew gasps of surprise, as did the girls in turquoise leotards and headdresses of turquoise feathers. Pilot had a military beret; Jesus was dressed in white cotton trousers and white shirt. There is so much more that could be said, however if you were not there you missed something very special. The people attending the five shows in Bexhill are in for a real treat.

Another £30 was handed from last Sunday’s lunch gathering at Mr & Mrs Vickery’s bringing the total to £680 raised that day for the Church Clock. Soon they will have enough to repair it.

Friday 21 June Summer Solstice; the longest day it would be wonderful to have a really good summer as there are many outdoor events planned.

Saturday 22 June Hastings Big Choir, 130 strong will be singing a few of the songs from their Battle of the Proms programme in Priory meadow from approximately 1pm to 3pm. If you wish to hear their full repertoire, tickets are £15 prior to the event for Hastings Battle of the Proms on 4 July, which precedes Hastings Beer Festival. They are £20 on the day available from http://www.hastingsproms.co.uk/ or Hastings Information Office. If you are going take your flags to wave and a picnic, or you may purchase food from the vendors in the ground.

The Association of Rye & District National Trust are holding a Summer Picnic in Smallhythe Place from 5pm and following at 6pm a performance in The Barn Theatre of Celebrating Shakespeare. It promises to be an amusing and entertaining event. Tickets are £12.00 per person from Ros Adkin by returning the order form in the last Newsletter or by calling 01797 253763. They can also be obtained from the Reception desk at Smallhythe Place prior to the event. On 25 June they have another walk planned this time centred around Icklesham. Park around the main road junction of Oast House Road. It will be a circular walk to the Royal Oak Pett 4 miles out and 3½ miles back. Sunday 23 June the Coach for Sandown Park Craft Show will be at Brede Village Hall Liz Jenkins asks everyone to assemble at 8.45am in the car park.

St George’s Church Brede celebrate the Eucharist at 9.30am. Reverend Peter Timms O.B.E, M.A is the preacher for the Trinity Methodist Church celebrating Holy Communion at 10.30am. Our Cricketers will be playing an away game against the Legion beginning at 2pm. For your entertainment at 4pm –6pm Phil Hudson & Hannah will be singing in the Rainbow Trout.

Monday 24 June Maureen Distin says she has had no phone calls offering help, which they desperately need at the Brede Age Uk Centre. Please phone her 01424 883282 if you can spare a few hours to help in the centre or to pick up clients. It is also the number to ring if you wish to join the group, which meet in Brede Village Hall at 10.30am. Rainbows meet In the Small Hall at 4pm, and Brownies at 5.30pm. In the Main Hall at 7.30 the Whist Players will be in action. At 6.45pm there will be a Planning meeting in the Community Hall. Beavers begin at 5.30 in the Scout Hut followed by Cubs at 6.30pm.

Tuesday 25 June In Brede Village Hall Brede Luncheon Club will be open to welcome all those over 60 to have a delicious lunch, do contact Anne Owen on 01424 882025 as soon as possible if you wish to join them. The Mobile Library visits Oakhill Drive 3pm – 3.40pm Reedswood Road 3.50pm - 4.15pm Brede Parish Council Meet in the Small Hall 7.30pm Residents are very welcome and the Councillors do appreciate your support.

Wednesday 26 June: The Brede Crafters meet at 2pm in the Village Hall. There is going to be a Quiz evening in the Rainbow Trout at 8pm. Tomorrow at the same venue Thursday 27 June: the Parent and Toddler Club is at 9am. Stretch and Tone in Brede Village Hall at 9.30am. The Mobile Library will visit Brede Village Hall 1.25pm – 1.55pm

Friday 28 June Brede Farmers Market in the Village Hall at 10am – 12pm The Short Mat Bowlers will be on form at 7.30pm

Saturday 29 June: The day begins with a Coffee Morning at Hillside Brede 10am –12noon Cream Teas, cake Stall knick knacks for sale in aid of The Friends Of St George’s. They extend a warm welcome to everyone. In the evening there will be a Village Dance 7.30pm in Brede Village Hall an evening of Sequence and Ballroom dancing. Good exercise, wonderful music and excellent company a truly social event, money raised goes to Charity every month.
