Tickets for next week’s presentation by Colin Page about the history and wildlife of the islands around Scotland can be obtained from Marion Firman by calling 01424-751165. Proceeds of the evening are in aid of the Friends of St. George and it is on Monday, October 22, at 7.30 pm in St. George’s Church. Entrance is £7.50, and will include a buffet supper.

Brede & Udimore Luncheon Club meets again next week on Tuesday, October 23, at 12.30 pm in the Village Hall for their monthly lunch. New members are always welcome and for full details please contact the Secretary, Frances Parnham on 01424-882007. The Luncheon Club are hoping to run a shopping excursion to Canterbury again this year. The proposed date is Tuesday, December 4, with departure from the Village Hall at 10.00 am, returning at about 4.00 pm. The fare will be £10 and non-members of the Club are welcome to come. This year’s Poppy Appeal begins at the end of next week and we hope to raise a similar amount to that achieved in the past. We realise that times are probably more difficult at present but I am sure you will do your best. We are also desperately short of someone to cover the Oakhill Drive area so if you have any time to spare please give Mrs. Beryl Crouch a call on 01424-882120 and she can give you all the details. The annual Concert to be given by Cranbrook Town Band in aid of the Poppy Appeal will be held in the Village Hall on Thursday, December 6, at 7.45pm.

Tables can be booked for the Brede W.I. Quiz Evening that will be held on Saturday, November 10. The entrance cost will be £7.50 per person including a hot supper. To book tables please contact Ann Elam on 01797-222604 by Friday, October 26, at the latest.

Problems on the A28 road at Westfield will be occurring from Monday, October 29 for 5 days. Resurfacing work is due to be carried out between Freshfields Farm Shop and the crossroads at the Westfield Car Sales showroom. The road is being closed to through traffic but hopefully the side roads will still be accessible. This will mean considerable alterations to the bus schedules both this side and the Hastings side of Westfield. Diversions are being signposted taking you through Cripps Corner. Be very careful if you are using the lanes from Westfield to Hastings during this period.

On Friday, November 9, the Conservative candidate for Police and Crime Commissioner, Katy Bourne, will be attending a special Italian lunch at the Brickwall Hotel, Sedlescombe where she will be speaking and answering questions. Services at St. George’s Church during the coming week are a Family Eucharist at 9.30 am on Sunday, October 21, with Holy Communion on Wednesday, October 24, at 10.00 am and on Thursday, October 25, Friday, 26, and Saturday, 27, at 9.00 am.

Trinity Methodist Church will be holding their regular Service on Sunday, October 21 at Broad Oak at the usual time of 10.30 am, but this week there will be a local arrangement for conducting the service.
