This year’s Poppy Appeal will be starting at the end of October and it is hoped that we can raise as much as previous years although we realise that things have got much tighter than before. All being well, house-to-house collectors will be calling on most houses in the district but if you haven’t seen one of our collectors please put something in the box when you are out shopping. As we can never have too many helpers, there is still time to contact Mrs. Beryl Crouch on 01424-882120 if you can lend a hand and she will be able to give you all the details. The annual Concert given by Cranbrook Town Band in aid of the Poppy Appeal will be held in the Village Hall on Thursday, December 6, at 7.45pm.

Proceeds of the refreshments sold at the Friday Farmers’ Market during September have been donated to the Macmillan Cancer Support ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ fund and amounted to £200. Many thanks to all those who continue to support the Market and make it as successful as it is.

Scenes from old Udimore will be on view tomorrow, Saturday, October 13, when the Friends of St. Mary’s, Udimore are having an ‘All Our Yesterdays’ afternoon from 3.00 to 5.00 pm in the Community Hall. Recollections on how life has changed in the village. Admission is £5.00 including tea. Brede & Udimore Overseas Group are having a Tea Party on Sunday, October 14, from 3.00 to 5.00 pm, at Hayesland Cottage, Hayes Lane.

Tickets are now available for the Friends of St. George’s presentation by Colin Page about the history and wildlife of the islands around Scotland. This will be held in St. George’s Church on Monday, October 22, at 7.30 pm. Entrance is £7.50, and will include a buffet supper. Tickets can be obtained from Marion Firman by calling 01424-751165.

Tables can be booked for the Brede W.I. Quiz Evening that will be held on Saturday, November 10. The entrance cost will be £7.50 per person including a hot supper. To book tables please contact Ann Elam on 01797-222604.

Brede & Udimore Luncheon Club are hoping to run a shopping excursion to Canterbury again this year. The proposed date is Tuesday, December 4, with departure from the Village Hall at 10.00 am, returning at about 4.00 pm. The fare will be £10 and the drop-off and pick-up point will be in the City centre. Non-:Luncheon Club members are welcome to come and if you would like more details or book please contact Aubrey White on 01424-882762.

The Mobile Library calls again next week on Tuesday, October 16, from 3.00 to 3.40 pm in Oakhill Drive and 3.50 to 4.25 pm in Reedswood Road. It will also be at the Village Hall on Thursday, October 18, from 1.25 to 1.55 pm. Apart from reading books, the Library has audio books as well as access to the internet and reference library.

Services at St. George’s Church during the coming week are a Family Eucharist at 9.30 am and Evening Prayer and Intercessions at 6.00 pm on Sunday, October 14, with Holy Communion on Tuesday, October 16, Thursday, 18, and Friday, 19, at 9.00 am and Wednesday, October 17, at 10.00 am.

Trinity Methodist Church will be holding their regular Service on Sunday, October 14 at Broad Oak at the usual time of 10.30 am, which this week will be conducted by Mrs. Gillian Lambourne.
