Brede and Udimore Overseas Group is holding a Jumble Sale in Udimore Community Hall tomorrow, Saturday, September 22, from 10.00 am to 12 noon.

Also in Udimore Hall next Friday, September 28, will be one of the ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Mornings’ in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, this too is from 10.00 am to 12 noon. Various stalls will be there including produce, cakes and arts and crafts items.

Whilst not wishing to get involved in various disputes that occur now and again in the village, I feel I must support an attempt to resolve a problem that has come to light due to the bus timetable changes last month. The following statement has been prepared by Mrs. Betty Drinkwater and Mrs. Joan Hester who are trying to get something done. It reads: As from the 1st August, Stagecoach, sanctioned by the transport team at Lewes (East Sussex C.C.), has withdrawn all stops in Sainsbury’s car park. This has deprived people with no alternative form of transport the opportunity to do a weekly shop and purchasing their basic essentials. Without the stop in the car park it is necessary to cross a very busy road, which eventually will no doubt result in an accident. As all the villages from Westfield to Northiam are affected this is completely unacceptable. A petition requesting re-instatement is being organised by Mrs. Drinkwater and Mrs. Hester and is available at the Red Lion in Brede and Broad Oak Stores. It will also be available at the Farmers’ Market on Fridays so please sign and give us your support. I also noted that there were several changes in the new timetable and it is my own opinion that they have been made to suit the requirements of Stagecoach and the question arises as to whether the services are being run for the benefit of the bus company or the general public.
