Brighton street closed as firefighters called to 'unsafe structure'

Firefighters evacuated a building in George Street, Brighton, after a bay window collapsed and caused 'severe damage' to scaffolding this morning (October 31).

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to George Street, Brighton, off St James Street, at 10.40am after a bay window had 'fallen' from a building and on to some scaffolding.

A fire service spokesperson said: "Everyone has been evacuated from the building."

It described the window as causing 'severe damage' to the scaffolding, and said crews remain at the scene of the 'unsafe structure'.

George Street is closed while firefighters deal with the incident, and the public are advised to avoid the area.
