Three Brighton students have been recognised as potential 'healthcare leaders of the future'.

Stephanie Mott and Hannah Griffiths, both studying Midwifery at the University of Brighton, have been accepted for the Council of Deans of Health’s Student Leadership Programme (SLP) to further develop skills to become leaders in their field.

And Sarah Cottington, Occupational Therapy student at the same university, has also been accepted for the programme

Sarah Lewis-Tulett, senior lecturer and course leader, said: “This is a proud moment for the school but more importantly for the students … many congratulations to them.”

Professor Paula Kersten, head of school of Health Sciences, said: “I understand there were hundreds of applications for this programme and selection was a very competitive process.

“Having our students selected is a fabulous achievement. The programme will be very valuable experience for both but also for others around you who will benefit through your participation.”

The three-to-four–month-long programme provides intensive training in essential knowledge and skills for future leaders. It includes tailored workshops, lectures and seminars led by experts in leadership.

There will also be one-to-one mentoring and access to an online ‘community of practice’ which allows students and mentors to interact and debate, and provides access to e-learning material.
