Brighton wants to move Birdman there

A meeting is being held about the prospect of Bognor's Birdman moving along the coast.

Some of the individuals behind the staging of the annual spectacular off the pier are meeting the chief executive of Worthing Borough Council.

The get-together was arranged by Ian Lowrie, on the council's behalf, to see if the resort can host the fly-off from its council-owned pier.

Another resort wanting to stage the contest, which attracts competitors from around the world, is Brighton.

The removal of some 80ft from the end of Bognor Pier meant the three directors of the organising committee decided that the shorter pier did not allow the fliers enough depth of water to land in safely.

This would have been the Birdman event's 30th year since it arrived in Bognor from its original location of Selsey.
