Burglaries increase warns Rye police

Police are warning home-owners to ensure their property is secure.

A camera bag with a Canon EOS 40D DSLR camera with two lenses, two memory cards, a Sony camcorder and other accessories with a total value of £1,850 were stolen from an insecure porch at Iden Road, Playden between 2pm and 7.45pm last Friday.

PCSO Dan Bevan said: “It is fairly obvious that this burglary was committed by an opportunistic thief who took advantage of an insecure property.

“I would like to stress the importance of ensuring your property is secure, even when you are home, it only takes a minute for someone to get in and out. If you want advice about home security please contact your local PCSO or PC via 101 or visit the ‘Advice & Support’ section of our website.

Last Friday also saw a house being burgled at Horns Cross, Northiam between 3.30pm and 6pm. A black limited edition 2010 VW Golf, with tinted windows was seen in the area.

There was also an attempted burglary at Kings Bank Lane, Beckley. Windows were damaged in an attempt to jemmy them open.

Police are holding a crime prevention advice and security marking session on Saturday from 4pm – 6pm at Winchelsea Sands Caravan Park, Pett Road, Winchelsea Beach.
