COFFEE: The coffee morning held by the Burwash Village Hall Committee was great fun with the usual supporters coming along. The cakes looked and tasted delicious, there was a great raffle and tombola. Plenty of books and some lovely jigsaw puzzles. Phoenix cards were also there for purchase. A profit of £220 was raised towards the refurbishment of the village hall windows.

AUCTION: Last Friday was the auction of promises for the villages’ party to celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday in June, organised by the Community Fund Committee. People had been really generous with the lots they had given, some were really amazing and would normally cost a lot of money. So a big thank you to anyone who donated the lots. The evening of the auction was great fun but not as well attended as the organisers had hoped. However they made £1,300 towards the day. Well done to all those who worked so hard to create this event and thanks to the Bear for hosting it.

SOUP: The Lenten Soup lunch held last week was a good fun event. There were five soups with crusty bread to sample all freshly homemade. The hall had been made to look really pretty with flowers on the tables and real napkins, no paper. The event made around £50 for Mary’s Meals a charity which gives orphaned children meals in 12 different countries. Well done all involved

COFFEE MORNING: The After 8’s coffee morning was also a big success, they had a good crowd who turned out to sample the delicious homemade cakes etc., along with a fresh coffee/tea. They will split the money they made between the Admiral Nurses and Macmillan Nurses. £190 was made.

DISCO: It seems it was a very happy and successful weekend for events in Burwash last weekend with wonderful comments also being made about the children’s disco held by St Bartholomew’s church in the village hall for the children of the villages. According to one mother the children had a fabulous time.

CLEANING: Tomorrow, Ssaturday, is the second of the I Love Burwash cleaning days. Volunteers are asked to help clear verges, clean sign posts cut back brambles and over hanging hedges to help make our villages cleaner and safer. Volunteers will split into groups and do different sections of the villages. If you can give an hour or two between 10am and 1pm, to this good deed, please contact the Parish council clerk on [email protected] or call 07854 699518. RACE NIGHT: Tomorrow, Saturday, evening the Burwash Weald and Common residents association are holding one of their popular race nights at the Pavilion in Burwash Common. 7.30pm with the first race at 8pm. Tickets are £4 to BC&BWRA members and £5 to non-members to include a hotdog. They are available from David Elmslie 01435 883510 or Leslie Elmslie 07818 848038, or can be bought on the door on the night. Always a lot of fun so do feel free to go along.
