Burwash

Panto: A big thank you to the members of the Burwash Amateur Pantomime Society for another season of great shows. This year they performed treasure Island and though unable to go myself I have received glowing reports of how exciting it was, especially for the children who were able to participate as usual from the audience. Lots of booing and hissing, clapping and cheering. The hard work that goes in to these shows is so worthwihile when so many get so much pleasure. With colourful props and scenery, costumes and awesome make up the backstage crew should not be forgotten. Well don everyone involved, We really do appreciate all the time and hard work you give. Roll on next year.

Karaoke: The kaoroke evening at the Bear was a hoot, according to my sources and the videos on facebook. The singing of some was awesome for differing reasons. In aid of the Christmas Get Together lunch for the elderly of our three villages the profits will be put to good use. Grateful thanks are given to the Bear for hosting the event, and to all those who donated the raffle prizes. Well done to Tania Cheshire and her gang for organising it. £170 was raised.

Bateman’s: There is an event coming up at Bateman’s, the National Trust property once owned by author Rudyard Kipling. You could book a Mothering Sunday tea on 6th March, treating Mum to a traditional English tea and visiting the beautiful house and gardens. Normal admission plus £15 per person. You still have until Sunday to enjoy the winter garden trail which is open from 11am to 4pm. Look out for the Easter trail later in March, more details to come. Bowls: The Burwash short mat bowls club have played two more league matches since I last reported on them. The first was away to Barcombe. The pairs games were Margaret Waterhouse, Mary Taylor & alan Green who won 22-3 and Wayne reed, Angela Marden and Gavin Wood who won 27-7. After tea the pairs played with Julie Hawkins and Alec Martin winning 19-6 and Keith Marden & Keith Wood who won 17-6. The second match was at home to the Horam Gunners. Again triple Wayne, Angela & Gavin won 20-3 and Martyn Casey, Margaret & Mary won 10-9. Pairs Keith Wood & Julie won 30-0 and Keith Marden & Alec won 22-6. This gives the team 16 more league points, putting them second in the table with two games in hand. The team will next play Hailsham Quintins at home on Thursday.
