Burwash

Mary Taylor, Holton Cottages

What a great time everyone had at the Burwash Festive evening las Wednesday. There was so much happening, BBQ, mulled wine & mince pies, magician, drummers, carols. lots of festive stalls in the bear, Santa’s grotto and more. Thank you to everyone who helped put on such a great night and everyone who came to enjoy it all.

The St Bartholome’s Christmas Tree Festival was also a huge success. The trees looked amazing, such a variety of colour & decorations. So many groups and clubs were able to get involved in this event which was open all weekend and finished with a lovely carol service. Congratulations to all involved.

Another big success last weekend was the charity bingo at the village hall. It was so nice to see families come to enjoy the fun, there was indeed a lovely crowd of people. The prizes were festive from the home made christmas cakes to the crackers and the Santa biscuit barrel. Chocolates, wine, cracker, hampers and more. We made just over £400 which will go along way towards giving those who live alone a great dinner on Christmas day. Thank you to everyone for your support.

The Oak Down House Art Workshop will be held today in the Pavilion in Burwash Common. Oak down is a local residential home for adults with learning difficulties. Members have been working hard all year and have produced some wonderful paintings. Their art tutor Jane Day is so impressed at the level of work achieved that she is putting on a small art exhibition for family, friends and the local community. The event is open from 11am to 1pm.

Tonight is quiz night at the Pavilion in Burwash Common. The fun begins at 8pm, when teams of six can take part in the general knowledge quiz. The licenced bar will be open and the proceeds will be given as prize money.

There are lots of groups having their Christmas lunches/dinners over the next week. They include the Not So Young club who are having theirs at the Bear on Monday, The After eight club who will have theirs in the Pavilion at Burwash Common on Wednesday, and the Bowls club who for the first time will venture away from doing it themselves and have it at the Bear week Sunday. some of then the ladies of Burwash are also having a special evening on the 19th at the Bear, this is open to any lady in the village, contact Pauline Wilson if you wish to attend.
