Burwash

The concert at the Burwash village hall last saturday was really enjoyable. 21 members of the Warbleton Brass band entertained around 80 people with a varied programme of music, from Moon River, Mr sandman, Amazing Grace, Those magnificent Men and Nimrod, and many more. Delicious home made cakes with tea or coffee were on sale in the interval and a good raffle was held. Indications are that over £500 was made for Help for Heroes and the Royal British Legion. Thank you to all those involved.

Burwash Bonfire society held a successful firework evening at the Swan Meadow playing fields. A good crowd turned out despite the brisk wind, music, food & drink was available. All the children who took part in the fancy dress competition received a prize. One or two adults even got in to the spirit and dressed up too. Thank you to Mary Clarke and her team for the hard work fund raising and organising this yearly event.

The Monday Painters invite you to visit their Autumn exhibition tomorrow, Saturday at the Burwash Village hall from 10am until 4pm. On display will be some of the work this talented group have produced over the past year. They have been out and about capturing the beauty and treasures of the country. All the paintings and cards will be for sale. Entry and refreshments are free.

The next walk for strollers will take place on Wednesday morning, leaving the bear car park at 9am. This is a gentle walk for those unable to take on the main Parish walk, but who enjoy the company, fresh air and exercise. Ijon Jenner will be your guide and he will be pleased to have you join them.

The next monthly Whist Drive is being held on Thursday evening in the Burwash village hall from 7.30pm. This is a friendly fun evening for players of all levels of ability. £3 gives you 20 hands of cards and light refreshments. We also hold a raffle. Prizes are awarded to the man & lady with the highest, second highest and lowest scores of the evening. No need for a partner as you will be changing as the evening progresses. The annual Poppy Appeal began last week with collectors visiting homes to sell the poppies. The Burwash Branch of the Royal British Legion will be out selling them too. The British Legion provides a wide range of support and advice to Service veterans, widows & widowers and young service families. They also are also allocating £50 million to assist with care and rehabilitation of those injured, wounded or become sick whilst serving in the armed forces. Last year the good people of Burwash donated over £7,000. Your support is greatly appreciated.
