BUS CONFUSION SPARKS ANGER

Despite promises bus schedules would be changed to make up for a cancelled Polegate service two local councillors have found out a 'rethink' is on the cards.

Councillors Roy Martin and Andy Watkins have learned that new services proposed between Dittons and Langney Shopping Centre may not be run at all.

Cllr Martin said: 'Despite new services being registered with the Traffic Commissioner, the operator is now saying they want a postponement so that they can have a rethink following the cuts made by Eastbourne Buses.

'This is just not good enough.

'The law requires 56 days notice of any changes and they should be required to operate the service as registered from January 15.

'I have written to the Traffic Commissioner and county council to tell them so.'

Cllr Andy Watkins added: 'This is a farce - the public and councillors do not know where they stand about changes which are supposed to be starting in not much more than a few days time.

'One moment the service is on and then it's off - just like Christmas tree lights.

'It seems our residents are going to be left standing in the cold waiting a very long time for the next bus.

'The law is a total ass if it allows our much needed services to be axed.

'If these operators can't make the services pay the county council should be subsidising them to ensure that they still operate.'
