Bus passenger dies of heart attack in Bognor

A FEMALE passenger died suddenly on a bus in Bognor Regis town centre.

The woman, aged in her 80s, passed away with an apparent heart attack while she sat on the 700 Stagecoach service on Longford Road. She was with her husband.

Efforts to revive her proved unsuccessful. The other passengers were taken off the bus and transferred to another vehicle to continue their journeys. The alarm was raised at 3.15pm last Friday.

It was as the bus on the 700 service from Brighton was just leaving Bognor town centre on its way to Chichester and Portsmouth.

The spokeswoman said: "The lady died on the bus with her husband sitting next to her.

"Someone on board tried to resuscitate her but she was already dead at that point.

"Our operations manager was in Bognor at the time on another bus and he was quickly able to arrange another bus for the other passengers.

"This meant they could soon continue their journeys to allow the paramedics to deal with the lady on the bus."

An ambulance spokeswoman said the woman had suffered a heart attack on the bus.
