Pat Hughes, from Rye and District Community Transport, described proposals to cut funding from £1.8 million to £700,000 as “shocking” and “very dramatic.”

But she urged local bus users not to panic and said: “A lot has been said which frightens people but we want to respond in a thoughtful and constructive way.

“We are looking at this from every direction and working to ensure our community gets the best public transport system possible.”
