Workers at the Riverside Industrial Estate in Bridge Road turned up to work this morning to find water-logged machinery, a trail of silt, and items misplaced by the torrents.

The flooding occurred overnight as a result of the tidal surge.

All agreed it was the worst flooding they had ever seen at the industrial estate.

While the water has now receded, the damage it has caused means for many businesses the Gazette spoke to the cost will be in the thousands.

Many traders had not expected the flooding, which was most severe in the east and north of the country.
