Butlin's is booming

Bookings for the latest Butlin's hotel in Bognor Regis are approaching £2m.

The seven-figure takings have secured the Wave Hotel’s popularity two months before it opens.

Bosses at the famous holiday firm’s parent company, Bourne Leisure, are delighted that more than £1.7m worth of accommodation has been sold so far in advance.

A Butlin’s spokeswoman said: “The hotel is on track to open on July 2 and we are very pleased with the amount of bookings we have taken for it.”

Building work for the Wave hotel began last year. It quickly took shape just inside the western boundary of the holiday site along the High Street and opposite Hotham Park.

It will boast 215 bedrooms and 29 apartments over seven storeys and is costing £25m.

The family rooms can accommodate up to a maximum of four people and there are a mix of two, three and four bedroom self-catering apartments.

The hotel incorporates high-tech features such as a Kindle library of ebooks, iPod docking stations in each room and children’s bunk beds with televisions.

Less technological but still innovative features include separate sleeping areas for parents and children and lounge and kitchen areas as well as interconnecting rooms where required.

The opening of the Wave Hotel, the third hotel on the site after the Shoreline and Ocean hotels, will create 87 jobs.

Bognor Regis Chamber of Commerce president and chairman Nick Stuart-Nicolson welcome its imminent arrival.

“This is good news and another boost for Bognor from Butlin’s.

“It shows the company’s continued confidence in the town.

“It can only be good for the town that more people will be attracted to Butlin’s here. The more that come here, the more money that will be spent here.

“I hope Butlin’s continue with their plan to replace all their chalets with these top-class hotels.

“Their standard is really high. And in the resort director, Jeremy Pardey, they have the right person in charge.”
