Change Real Estate has pledged to ‘bring vibrancy back’ to the empty site and is planning a mixed-use facility.
The Kent-based developer purchased the 1.1 acre freehold from police and crime commissioner Katy Bourne for an undisclosed sum in February.
Director Ron Persaud said: “This is an exciting opportunity; Worthing has experienced a considerable level of investment in recent years and it’s easy to see why. “It’s an attractive seaside town, in a fantastic location just a few miles from Brighton and with good road and rail links to London, so it’s got a lot to offer.
“We are working very closely with the council who owns the remainder of the site to design and bring forward a quality mixed use scheme, ensuring any development of Union Place enhances the vitality and viability of the town centre.”
The developer is working closely with Worthing Borough Council to bring forward plans for Union Place, which will include the adjacent 0.3 acre element of the site owned by the council.
It is hoped that a planning application will be submitted later this year.
