Cafe's bid to sell booze sparks an outcry

PEOPLE who rent chalets on Worthing seafront have hit out over plans for a nearby cafe to sell alcohol seven days a week.

Coast wants to sell booze from 9am to 8pm Monday to Sunday and have unamplified live music seven days a week from midday to 8pm.

But the chalet-users say it is a family area and should stay that way.

The application comes at a time when Worthing Borough Council and the police are trying to crack down on street drinkers on Worthing's seafront.

Dorothy Wilcock, who has rented a chalet for 35 years, said: "I think this is a family and children's area. We have got Peter Pan's Playground at the back and you get lots of families on the beach and the grass behind.

"I just feel it's not necessary. There are so many other places they can go to. We don't want it right here."
