Caitlin's charity walk with a twist

Caitlin, of Edward Bryant School, hula hooped for 2km along Bognor Regis seafront on September 28 to raise money for The Sussex Snowdrop Trust.

She decided she wanted to raise money for the trust in memory of her friend and classmate Charlie Dowling who died of cancer last year.

Before the walk, Caitlin said: “I am really looking forward to it, I have been practising at playtime, at school, and on the seafront.”

After aiming to raise £300 for the trust, Caitlin exceeded her target and raised £600 through a donations page online and from collection buckets on the day.

She was initially going to complete the hula challenge on September 23, but bad weather meant it had to be rescheduled to Sunday.

Sedge, Caitlin’s dad, said: “We are massively proud of her and it is amazing that an eight year old can do such great things.”

The walk began at the bandstand on the seafront and she walked to the Lobsterpot restaurant and back.

Caitlin said: “It was quite hard because it was quite windy and my feet really hurt at the end. I wanted to raise money for the charity because my friend died and they helped his family.”
