Call for ideas to regenerate Bognor

Ideas to regenerate Bognor Regis are being sought by the town's CiViC society.

The group wants to stage an exhibition later this year to enable residents to see the variety of proposals put forward.

At the society's recent meeting, concern was expressed that Arun District Council's preferred developer, St Modwen, had not produced a range of ideas for the public to choose from.

Hugh Coster, the society's deputy chairman, said: "All we have had is one scheme, take it or leave it, except we haven't even had the option of leaving it.

"This isn't nearly good enough and so we intend to hold an exhibition at the same time as St Modwen's next one to give the public a range of choices.

"We'll conduct a poll to see what people think of both exhibitions."

On show will be CiViC's ideas from the masterplan its members created nine years ago, but the society wants the public to submit their ideas for possible display as well.

"We have great confidence in the good sense and creativity of the public," said Mr Coster, "and we want to ensure that this receives proper attention too." A suggestion was made at the meeting that the society should join with St Modwen to stage a joint exhibition.

Richard McMann, Arun's regeneration task force co-ordinator for Bognor, agreed to suggest the idea to the company after the developer had declined to attend the meeting.

Regeneration ideas should be submitted to the civic society by contacting Hugh Coster on 01243 587922.
