TThe event takes place on Saturday March 21.

The ‘national spring clean’ event falls on the first official day of spring and aims to end the blight of litter in our communities.

West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services, David Barling, said: “Dropping litter not only makes our beautiful towns, villages and communities an eyesore, but it’s also very socially unacceptable. There really is no excuse for it.

“Community Clear Up Day is a chance for communities to come together and spring clean their local area, whether it’s a high street, residential or business area, village green or park.

“Many groups already regularly pick up litter in a bid to keep their local areas clean and tidy. This national day recognises their role and encourages others to join in. By working together as communities we can really help make a difference and transform local spaces across the county.”

Any community planning an event for Community Clear Up Day is asked to let the county council know - email [email protected].

The county council can offer advice on risk assessment and insurance, and possibly loan litter picking kits.
