Call to save Bexhill's verges from inconsiderate car parking

The Bexhill Environmental Group (BEG) has urged people to avoid parking on grass verges as residents put a lot of work into keeping them tidy.

Treasurer Chris Ashford said it is a shame to ruin them as the verges are for people to enjoy, not destroy.

“It’s sad when people damage the verges by parking vehicles on them, particularly on any of the verges, it’s completely unnecessary,” he said,

“Verges are for the enjoyment of the people and are not car parks.”

The group commended one resident, Ted, with a particularly well kept verge in Birkdale a few years ago.

BEG member Edward Echlin said Ted is an example to all residents in Bexhill to maintain their verges and to not destroy them by parking on them.

“But now, alas, car drivers cruelly deface even his beautiful verge,” he said.

“Car culture not withstanding, well maintained front gardens and green verges beautify Bexhill and are an inspiration to all of us.”

This outcry is the latest in the ongoing struggle with parking in Bexhill, as town centre business owners have also complained about inconsiderately parked cars.

“Having converted our streets into virtual car parks, the local car culture now assaults our verges,” Dr Echlin said.

“The damage is not only by Hastings Direct young scribblers and school run parents but throughout Bexhill.”
