Calls to repair ‘danger’ path in Battle

Sarah Lawson, of Coronation Gardens, branded the walkway ‘disgusting’ and is calling on AmicusHorizon to take action.

She said: “There are three dangerous metal posts sticking out and it has been left this way for three to four weeks now.

“I am very concerned that if the path is currently left like this a young child could fall and impale themselves on this dangerous, so-called answer to the path problem.”

Neighbours Alan and Glad Butt said the path was at a very steep angle.

Alan added: “Because of this it has caused us problems accessing our property over the years, especially in bad weather. The only option is to walk over slippery wet grass. The kids play on their bikes out there and it’s very steep and dangerous.”

Alanda Burgess said the path had been in Coronation Gardens for a number of years and repaired several times before.

She said: “There are elderly residents who live here, who have fallen on this dangerous path. We have a right to have a useable path to access our properties rather than be expected to walk over muddy and slippery grass. Why can’t AmicusHorizon simply install a hand rail, or turn it into steps or better still, move the path onto a flat and more level piece?

Neighbour Chris Mepham said: “Having been a landscape gardener, I know the cost to replace this path is not that expensive. We can’t understand why Amicus has not done anything sooner, when this is a major health and safety issue. Sticking a few metal poles and some orange trellis around it to stop people using it is not the answer.”

A spokesman for AmicusHorizon said: “We’d like to apologise to residents for the delay in resolving this issue. Since this was first brought to our attention last month we’ve been carefully considering the most appropriate action for repairing, replacing or removing the path. We’ll be writing to local residents by Friday, June 19 with our proposals. We’ve no record of the current footpath ever being created by AmicusHorizon and we share the concerns of residents about health and safety. We’ll continue to work with residents to improve the health and safety of this piece of land.”
